What kitchen gadgets does every home chef need?
I will try to break this down as I would for a single frugal person and again for someone who really spends a lot of time in the kitchen.
Frugal Person: All the BASICS that will cover 90% of your needs.
- 1 large sauce pan with high sides
- 1 large, heavy metal bottomed stock pot
- 1 set measuring spoons
- 1 set measuring cups
- 1 glass 2 cup measuring vessel (a mason jar can work for this too)
- 1 good, large chef’s knife (this knife does 95% of my cutting)
- 1 knife sharpener
- 1 cutting board (use 1 side for veg and the other side for meat)
- 1 vegetable peeler
- 1 set kitchen utensils
- 1 electric tea kettle
- 1 manual can opener
- 1 box grater (many prefer a micro-plane but I’m old school)
- 1 set of large mixing bowls
- 1 colander
- 1 flat of canning jars (used to store foods, mix dressings, measure liquids, etc…)
- Home Chef: LUXURY items in addition to the list above.

- 1 vacuum sealer
- 1 vegetable slicer (mandoline)
- 1 thermometer
- 1 kitchen scale
- 1 electric skillet/griddle
- 1 small kitchen torch (for creme brulee)
- Gadgets that we have been gifted and NEVER used:
- 1 panini press/cooker
- 1 egg cooker
- 1 corn on the cob butter holder
- 4 corn on the cob trays/holders

- 1 cherry pit remover
- 1 pineapple cutter (larger version of a press down apple slicer)
